Springfree jumps the competition to win prestigious International design award

Springfree Trampoline has jumped the competition to win Good Design Australia’s prestigious 2013 Sport and Leisure Best in Category award last night.

Springfree Trampoline’s winning entry, the brand new M18 mini trampoline, is a novel crossover product that combines all the award-winning signature design elements that have made its Springfree Trampoline ‘big cousins’ the leaders in the Australian trampoline market for the past decade.

At a compact 160cm x 116cm and with its mat surface low to the ground, the M18 can be cleverly used inside the home or outside. Add the snap-on enclosure and the M18 is a safe and fun indoor trampoline for children. Take the enclosure off and the M18 provides the perfect rebound platform for use by adults in gyms and fitness centres or at home. Its compact size also allows the M18 to be utilised by physiotherapists, other medical specialists and professional sports trainers as an unstable surface for rehabilitation exercises and other coaching.

Mrs Thompson, who received the award in Sydney last night on behalf of the company, said the Springfree Trampoline team was committed to looking for ways to make exercise safer and recognised a need for innovation in the area of rebounders. “The M18’s large rectangular mat makes available a huge number of options previously not possible on old-style rebounders. The new ‘flatbar’ technology allows for a range of different configurations and by utilising the patented SoftEdge technology developed by Springfree Trampoline, there is no risk of feet being trapped in between springs and padding, the whole surface area is utilised and the bounce is silent.”

It was some 20 years ago that Dr Alexander, a father of three who simply wanted to make sure his children were safe while they enjoyed a backyard bounce, set off on his research project into trampoline injury prevention. At the end of the project in 2003, the original Springfree Trampoline was unveiled. It was the first in the world to be springfree and as such, has been classed as “the world’s safest trampoline”.

In 2008, Springfree Trampoline entered China. While China embraced the product and officially certified it for schools and gymnastics training, for the broad population who live without backyards, another design strategy was required. To meet the needs of this market, in 2009 Springfree Trampoline began developing its patent pending flatbar technology for use in trampolines and the first product to market using this revolutionary technology was the M18.

“The product has been so successful in Asia that we undertook an extensive consumer testing program of the M18 here in Australia at the end of 2012,” Mrs Thompson said. “Australian consumers said they loved it so Springfree Australia plans to make the M18 available in 2014 after applying the modifications that Australian consumers said they wanted.
