Back To School Tips

The start of a new school term is always a great time for a reset and some new (and better) habits. With our tips to get your kids on track, it will be a breeze - no need for that extra cup of coffee in the morning.

1. Make Lunch Together

Get the kids involved in shopping for, and making their lunch for their first day back to school. Letting them hand select what goes into their lunch boxes will help ensure everything gets eaten! With these great lunch ideas from The Organised Housewife your kid’s lunch boxes will be sorted.

2. Set up a routine

Get the kids out of bed in a regular sequence in the lead-up to school coming back – this will make it easier to get them settled for the day when the first bell rings. Early morning exercise is a great way to get the mind on track for the rest of the day. A 10-minute jump on your Springfree Trampoline has the potential to produce the same results as 30 minutes of physical activity!

3. Get the right fuel!

Morning meals are important for kids, if they aren’t getting the right fuel through the day they will begin to tire out quickly while they are at school. Make sure that their morning meal has the right balance to ensure they remain focused all day. A nutrient-rich breakfast has shown positive results in children for behaviour, cognitive ability and learning.

4. Set the tone

If you are showing that you yourself are unmotivated in the morning, your kids will pick up on that. If you can stay upbeat, positive and even a little bit enthusiastic, they will pick up on that and try to be the same. After all, kids want to be like mum and dad, show them how it’s done in the morning.

5. No morning electronics

Easier said than done sometimes! But, try your best to keep these distractions for later in the day, maybe as a reward for doing homework, or chores around the house. If your kids are able to get their hands on a mobile phone or other electronic devices, they will become easily distracted and forget about school in a heartbeat. Keep their mind on the prize and keep these out of reach in the morning.

6. Morning Reward System

If you want things to run smoothly, adding an incentive could be a good idea. Put a chalkboard up and monitor if everyone is running on schedule in the morning. Reward the good behaviour and routine with something of your own choosing. Maybe, let them have some extra playtime on their Springfree Trampoline or a healthy treat in their lunch box!

7. Play to their interests

If you have noticed that your child has taken an interest in a particular subject at school, you can start the morning, re-enforcing their interest. If your child loves geography, and other countries or cultures, try to shake things up at breakfast time and try some international breakfast options. You could try to start the morning with a delicious Bolivian breakfast called Saltena De Carne, an amazing breakfast empanada. Get the full recipe from The Spruce Eats.

8. Get lots of exercise

If you want to make sure that your kids are getting to bed on time, you need to make sure that they have done enough physical exercise throughout the day. The best way to do this is by letting them bounce on a Springfree Trampoline, going to dance classes, or for a swim. Removing electronic devices from their day a half-hour before bedtime will also help settle their minds in preparation for sleep.

9. Go to bed on time

Make sure that your kids are getting enough sleep and the right amount to recharge their batteries, this will make the mornings a cinch. If your kids are well-rested and full of energy, they will be at the front door before you know it! This one helps them, help you in the morning.
