Celebrate the festive season as Melbourne comes alive with events, activities, decorations and more for the month-long Christmas Festival! Melbourne is transformed into a Christmas wonderland featuring Santa’s House and the giant 16m digital Christmas Tree at Fed Square, the famous Myer Christmas Windows and an incredible array of decorations taking over the city.

Christmasland is made up of several themed rooms that you can explore freely. Guests can explore a gingerbread house, slide into a giant marshmallow pool, hop aboard a sleigh and enjoy a live snowfall session every 30 minutes, among additional experiences. There will be lolly tastings throughout the space and Sugar Republic’s ever-popular, ever-photogenic ball pit is making a Christmas-themed comeback. Christmasland also has plenty of spaces perfect for a family Christmas photo. Even Santa himself is going to be there.

Where: State Library Victoria, Melbourne Town Hall and Princes Bridge
The city’s beloved Christmas projections are back. Start at State Library Victoria with this year’s feature show, a very Melbourne Night Before Christmas, written by Marieke Hardy and narrated by Lee Lin Chin. Then, wander onwards to see the epic static Christmas projections on the Melbourne Town Hall and, for the first time, Princes Bridge.

Following the Carols by Candlelight, Santa will start a parade from 9.30pm in a vintage fire-truck for all to follow. Keeping the tradition alive for almost 70 years, residents will have their houses, gardens and windows decorated with lights displays, nativity scenes and everything festive. So come and be dazzled by this spectacular show, roving entertainers, food trucks and more.

Get into the Christmas spirit and support a great cause, Vision Australia’s children services, at the annual Carols By Candlelight Christmas Eve event. Starting in the evening, light your candles and sing your favourite Christmas songs, carols, and listen to performances by popular Australian artists, famous television characters, and local choirs. Bring the whole family along to enjoy this magical event.

If you find it hard to make carols by candlelight work with little kids, this is the perfect solution for families to get festive this Christmas and tickets include entry to Melbourne Museum after the event, so you can make a great day of it. Come along for some Christmas cheer and sing and dance along with Harrison Craig, winner of the second series of The Voice, the amazing kids entertainer Bethany Fisher, Damo Music for Kids, Team Dream just to name a few. Santa will be there to bring some Christmas cheer and Barbie will have her pink car parked for some amazing photo opportunities.

Pack a picnic rug and head down to Jells Park to celebrate the festive season! Once again hosted by the ever-popular Pete Smith, the Monash Carols will feature an amazing line-up of soloists plus the Monash University Chorale and the Monash Carols by Candlelight Band. Soloists include: Dan Hamill, Bella Paige, Belinda Parsons, Keenan Te and the Amore Duet. Candles, glow novelties and a selection of drinks and snacks will be available for purchase throughout the evening.

Legoland pays homage to Melbourne with a 1.5 million Lego brick replica of the city, which will feature festive additions like a winter village near the Royal Exhibition Building and an Aussie-style Christmas scene at Lego St Kilda Beach. You can take your yearly Christmas family photo under the gigantic 1.9m tall Lego Christmas tree. Kids can write their letters to Santa and post it in the Lego mailbox with one of Santa’s special little elves granting five lucky winners with a Lego-related Christmas wish.

Follow the heavenly scent to discover Melbourne's iconic cityscape, recreated in gingerbread by the team at Epicure. A fantastic day out for the whole family, this Puffing Billy Santa Special is set to be a day to remember. Jingle your way through the gorgeous Dandenong Ranges on Victoria’s favourite steam train. Decked out in Christmas decorations, the famous steam train will depart for a 60 minute return journey through the Dandenong Ranges. Following their train ride, Santa and his helpers will hand out gifts to all the children (from babies up to 10 year olds).
