Can you imagine bouncing on a trampoline... more than 30 million times?! That's just what our tgoma community have achieved in just over a year!
What's it all about? We're glad you asked!
We're so excited to have just passed this record milestone with the help of our customers, who have jumped more than 30 million times on their Smart Trampolines with tgoma.
Our Springfree Smart Trampoline revolutionises the backyard trampoline with our world-first tgoma technology. It features a mat that detects jump activity, turning your trampoline into an interactive platform controlled by your jumps and body movement.
Sensors in the trampoline mat send data to your tablet, which attaches to the enclosure net. Your jump location, jump height, tally of jumps, and even calorie burn rate are presented back to you in real time as you bounce! That data feeds a suite of apps & games designed to be controlled by your body movement and jumps.
It’s a development that has seen us win a number of innovation awards since the Smart Trampoline was released last year, including two Australian Good Design Awards!
“Thirty million jumps since launch is fantastic,” says Jonathan Collins, our Product Manager for the Smart Trampoline. “Our goal was to get people outside and active, and it’s obviously working.”
The Smart system includes a suite of apps, from fitness trackers and personal training apps, educational apps which exercise young brains and bodies simultaneously, through to a range of fun games designed to get digitally-engaged youngsters off the couch and moving their whole bodies (rather than just their thumbs).
“We want to re-direct children's passion for technology and make it a physical activity,” says Jonathan.
Simply telling kids (and parents for that matter) to leave their devices and go outside to be active is just not working. The Smart Trampoline take the opposite approach, by harnessing the attraction of technology in a way that gets people moving again.
“We’ve seen how inactive people – kids particularly – have become with the rise of digital technology,” says Jonathan. “There’s no question about the benefits of tech, but that’s come at a cost. We saw a clear opportunity to match one of the most effective exercises available with a technology that enhances the joy of jumping.”
Research undertaken by NASA showed trampolining to be one of the most effective exercises available, three times more effective than jogging. G-forces delivered at the bottom of the jump provide considerable musculoskeletal benefit while being low-impact on joints. (You can learn more about the various trampoline health benefits here).
“It’s a much under-appreciated form of exercise. With twenty minutes of trampolining delivering the aerobic equivalent of a one hour run, I know which I’d prefer to do!”, says Jonathan.
Our customers appear to agree. Our most popular of the tgoma apps is our tgomaFit app, designed in collaboration with the New Zealand Olympic Trampoline team’s coach, which delivers an amazing workout in a very short time indeed!
So here's to 30 million jumps, and counting! Thank you and congratulations to all our tgoma users out there, squashing fruit, stomping aliens and getting outside and active to make this outstanding milestone happen!
