pcycHere at Springfree™ Trampoline we are celebrating a ‘Young Person of the Year’ in our midst.

Belinda, a sales and customer service consultant in our Sydney office was  announced as the 2010 winner of the PCYC Young person of the Year.

When asked why do you think you were the chosen one she said, “It was completely unexpected. I had no idea I was even nominated but it might have something to do with my success in table tennis last year.”

And success it is. Here is a list of her achievement from the last two years alone;

- Australian Representative 2006-2009

 - U18 Aus Women’s doubles winner 2008-2009

 - Australian Commonwealth Youth Games representative held in Pune, India 2008

 - World Junior Circuit U18 women singles Semi-finalist 2009

- First Australian to represent Oceania in the World Junior Circuit finals in Tokyo, Japan 2009

- Australian Representative to compete in World Junior Championships in Colombia 2009

 - Rank 1 in NSW Women U18 2009

Belinda has been associated with the PCYC since 2002 and they have supported her through a full sponsorship for her table tennis activities since 2006. Belinda said this award made her feel like all the hard work and effort she has put into table tennis over the years has paid off.

The official awards ceremony will be held on 11th September 2010 in Bathurst. Woohoo – Go Belinda!!!

I’m one of the world’s clumsiest/ disaster prone people – I’m happy to admit it, ‘cos I sure can’t hide it.

Most parents purchase the Springfree™ Trampoline because it’s the safest trampoline, and they can have confidence their kids can exercise without injury.

This is true! But are there any other ‘grown-up’s’ out there that enjoy the safety of our trampoline to avoid life’s general mishaps?

I love jumping on our trampoline – it has me the fittest I’ve ever been and confident that I can exercise safely. I also know when jumping, I’m in a “padded cell” and for a period am protected from my clumsy/ disaster prone nature.

To give you an idea of the last 5 days on a trip to the US, and back to Canada… my top three (and these are the top of many) are:

  1. Managing to irritate a customs officer into giving me the full once over (fortunately it didn’t get quite to the rubber glove stage) but still, I was patted down, and questioned to a point of compromise
  2. After finally, getting over 2 delays and a grounded plane, the flight I was on was HIT BY LIGHTENING travelling into San Francisco. Let’s just say, huge bang, big blast of sparks, and 30 seconds of utter fear before the captain announced “Ladies and Gentlemen, no need to worry, we were just hit by lightening, but fortunately we’re okay”??!!
  3. To add insult to injury, today, I was responsible for “killing” the Springfree™ Trampoline van on my first trip back to the office. Take one major 8 lane Canadian highway, a large wrapped Springfree™ Trampoline Van, and add me as a driver and of course the transmission will blow. Fortunately, while I tweeted my distress (waiting crouched on the passenger side with rush hour traffic zooming by after crossing 4 lanes with loss of speed and hazards and horn going – did I mention I was listed as “the slow vehicle blocking the exit lane” on the traffic report?!) a twitter friend found my frightened image amusing… and crafted this wonderful PhotoShop picture for me…
When my transmission broke on the highway...

When my transmission broke on the highway...

Let’s just say, I think I’m safer in a Springfree Trampoline.

Is anyone else this accident prone?

At Springfree™ Trampoline, we love sharing the stories of our staff. Our company is more than just what we do between 9 and 5, we like to celebrate the hobbies and interests of the people that we work for and with.

Our Springfree™ Trampoline CEO Steven Holmes is currently cycling with his wife Cheryl and friends in the South of France. He’s knows we like to blog a lot, so he’s helping out by tracking their adventure.

Hopefully, in the next photo’s they’ll be wearing their Springfree™ Trampoline shirts!

DAY ONE: We arrived safely in Paris and transferred to the train. The transfer with 4 bike cases and 4 pieces of luggage was a little more effort than planned but we made it to Aix-en-Provence, a beautiful city in the in Southern France about 30 kilometres from the sea. The first night we walked the streets and alleys enjoying the culture, food and sights and sounds of the city. Tomorrow we’ll spend the morning in the market followed by an afternoon of riding.

DAY TWO: Well, we woke up early and ventured off into the Saturday morning markets, some would say in search of strange and weird socks for Brent to wear and/or gift to Doug Hill (our Springfree Trampoline VP). For those of you who know Brent (our legal counsel), cycling 125 kms is no problem compared with 15 minutes in the market, and we spent 3 hours in the market.

We enjoyed the whole experience but in the 3 hours probably only saw 1/2 the market. It was interesting to see the contrast that occurs when a City opens up to markets and right in front (I mean 3 to 4 feet outside the front door) of major brand stores like the GAP, Louis Vuton, LaCoste and selling everything else you can imagine… eggs, fruit, vegetables, pastries and much more.

There were probably 5 streets full of fresh cut flowers and they were spectacular….. Jo commented at least every 15 minutes….”I can’t believe Brent is in the flower market”.

Amazing flowers in the market

Amazing flowers in the market

From the market to the bikes for an afternoon ride, more up Brent’s alley and we were in search of the centuries old aqueduct and any cycling shop we may pass on the way. After we got out of the City, we were faced with a beautiful 12 km climb with some exceptionally steep switch backs but nothing fresh legs couldn’t overcome. Arrived at the top and still looked as fresh as when we started…..A nice descent down a different root and back to the City. Met up with our guide Philippe and enjoyed the evening planning for the rides ahead.

DAY 3: Well I experienced my four most feared bike demons (and Brent’s favourites)…..mountains, wind, scary steep descents and a long distance…oops one more, a wrong turn. This was scheduled to be a 98km day with four very long climbs into the Sainte Victoria Plateau unfortunately due to an early wrong turn we ended up with a 125km day and 5 very long climbs and the unplanned 35km head and side wind. Both Cheryl and I love the climbs but we do not have the fitness to attack them the way the Brent and Joanne do and so our climbs were much slower than we should have achieved. Brent and Jo patiently waited at each summit which we appreciated. Our riding time in the saddle today was close to 6.5 hours and my bum said it felt like more like a lifetime.

"Up the Hill we go..."

"Up the Hill we go..."

The demon lovers rode an additional 31km beyond Cheryl and I just to prove they could and for anyone who has any doubts, he can! They are an incredible tandem machine! As was the case in Tuscany last year, without Cheryl I would have given up. She calmly and patiently encourages me to just stay focused on the cadence (keeping my feet moving) and she will watch up the hill rather than me looking and getting discouraged that there is no end in sight. At lunch break today I was almost done in and was very quiet. Brent commented that he had finally found a way to shut Holmes up…even then I didn’t have the energy to counter…..maybe tomorrow. Left hotel at 8:00am and arrived in St. Remy at 8:00pm….found a shower, food and fell quickly into bed in preparation for tomorrows day of climbing.

Who can believe it’s December again already?

Tia and me

Tia around 4 hours old and a very tired Aunty

I’m not sure if you noticed but I have not blogged in the last two days but I have a very good reason.  My sister Leigh gave birth to my beautiful little niece and I was by her side from the start to finish.

I got the call from my sister at around 4:45pm on Tuesday 10/11, that she has started her contractions.  I didn’t actually believe her at first as I had been waiting for this moment for 9 months and now it was here!

I raced straight over to her house and got everything prepared.  Fruit, lollies, water, spare clothes and put everything in the car.  At his point the contractions were around 20 minutes apart so we got to watch our favourite shows – Packed to the Rafters and Private Practice.

At around 11:30pm the contractions started to become closer together around 8 minutes so we thought we better start thinking about going to the hospital soon.  I got really obsessed with timing the contractions and the space in between.  It made me feel as though I was doing something helpful for Leigh. I looked like a footy coach with my stop watch around my neck yelling “It’s nearly over Leigh, 10 more seconds!”

At 12:00pm on the dot we made the decision to hope in the car and head to the hospital as the contractions were really revving up and were around 5 minutes apart.  At that moment I thought she couldn’t be too far away now, in no time Leigh will be holding her little girl.  How wrong could I have been?

Her contractions continued like this for another 5 hours!  She tried it in the bath, in the shower, on the bed, on her knees but nothing made my little niece want to move any faster.  She was a stubborn little thing!  Leigh stayed at 7 cm Dilated for 5 hours without any progress so they made the decision to give her an epidural at around 9am on the 11/11.  Yes that’s right we have been going now for around 16 hours!

The doc came in around 12:00pm and gave us the news Leigh needed – yep in the last 3 hours she has made her way down and Leigh could get ready to push.  YAH!!!  Leigh was not so excited.  Her anxiety kicked in and she was so exhausted she didn’t know how she was going to push.  Well she did.  She had to wait until the Epidural wore off a bit so at 1:00pm she started to push.  This went on for over 2 hours when the doc cam back in at 3:00pm and said its time for this little one to come out and he used the powers that technology has granted mothers and got her out.

Born at 3:34pm on 11/11 Tia Lee Campbell was just perfect, weighing in at a very healthy 8lbs 4oz.

Now 2 days old, I am amazed that she already has a nice calm little personality.  She makes faces just like her mum and she is the apple of everyone’s eyes.  Even the nurses keep saying how perfect she is (maybe they say this everyone but hey we don’t disagree)!

It was the most amazing experience of my life to watch the wonder that is Child Birth. So many people said to me that I won’t want to have kids of my own after watching the ordeal but in fact I feel the exact opposite.  Yes it was hard and long work, but that moment when they lifted little Tia to Leighs’ chest was one of those moments that will never leave me.

En Route to the 2009 World Championships, Canada’s own Rosie MaclennanRosie in Canada drops into Springfree™ Trampoline headquarters to say hi to the team.

The 2009 World Championships is the first in the new Olympic cycle, and the first of many important competitions for Rosie and fellow Canadian Trampoline gymnasts ahead of London 2012.

Maclennan is one of the world’s rising trampoline athletes currently holding the claim to the hotly contested Canadian National Trampoline Champion.

Rosie has always been a huge supporter and we could not be prouder to have such a star endorse our Springfree™ Trampoline.

“Whenever I’m asked to recommend a backyard trampoline, I always think of Springfree Trampoline first. Springfree is the safest trampoline on the market today. I love the fact there are no harmful springs on the Springfree Trampoline so kids can enjoy hours of healthy and fun exercise without the worry of rusty steel springs to fall through. Kids finally have a safe place to jump, have fun and get fit, all at the same time. Way to go Springfree!”

Rosie joins other Olympic trampoline athletes Karen Cockburn and Jason Burnett who also endorse the Springfree as the safest backyard trampoline on the market today.

Springfree™ Trampoline would like to wish Rosie and the entire Canadian team the best of luck at Worlds!

Watch out ladies, according to the Sydney Morning Herald, Men are the New Women… Confused? It all started with the Mirdle also known as the Men’s Girdle. mirdle_420-420x0

Designed to smooth and slenderize the waistline, the Mirdle is the latest craze hitting Australian department stores and men love the shape they can achieve with the Mirdle, which is reflected in the under garment sales.

This new trend doesn’t really surprise me!  With the “Metro Man” now the norm in modern society – isn’t this just an extension of their needs?

The Metro Man is defined by their security in their sexuality, sensitivity, intuition and penchant for grooming. Their interest in style and fashion (and figure flattering underwear) doesn’t make them feel any less masculine or any less heterosexual.

We have a variety of different type of personalities in the Australian Springfree™ Trampoline office so I was interested to see if any of the men here would wear the Mirdle?

Justin Sales Consultant aged 24

“I would wear it!  If it took 5 years of your gut who wouldn’t?”

Paul – Spare Parts and Warranty late 30’s

“Yeah I would definitely wear it!  What a great idea.

Aaron – Warehouse assistant early 30’s

“No, No, No…. Not this week anyway but things could change.”

Jason – Sales Consultant Sydney Late 20’s

“No – I might if I was bigger”

So there you have it!  The Metro Man gets stronger everyday…

What do you think about the Mirdle? Or better yet are you wearing one now?

Erin & Emma meet Alison Braun

Erin & Emma meet Alison Braun

“You need to get out of your comfort zone and jump for joy” says the inspirational Alison Braun.

The once self confessed overweight mother stole the hearts of the Australian nation in the 2008 Biggest Loser competition.

I had the pleasure of meeting Alison at the Sydney Women’s Expo where she shared her journey of shedding over 50 kilos, and reintegrating to ‘life on the outside’.  So many people praised how fantastic she looked and how much they loved watching her on TV.  Asked how she deals with the attention, her reply, ‘[it’s]…Just Humbling’.

Now Alison travels around Australia aiming to inspire women to get fit – and the key according to Alison is the power of the mind.

When I heard Alison encouraging people to ‘Jump for joy’, I automatically thought of my experience trying to get mothers to have a jump on the Springfree™ Trampoline.  At the event I offered many mothers the opportunity to have a bounce, but their response was “Oh No… I couldn’t jump I would probably fall apart”. But once they make the decision to get out of their comfort zone, and give it a go, they have an absolute ball!

Alison is proof that your body can do amazing things, when you’ve got your head right.

So I propose a mission to all mothers, women and anybody who hasn’t jumped out of their comfort zone for a while – go crazy!  Try something new, do something different – heck get out to the backyard and jump on the Springfree™ Trampoline if you’re one of those mothers who thinks… Geez that looks fun but I couldn’t do that!!

antenatalReading the first line of news article ‘Blokes finally have a good excuse to head to the pub when their partner is pregnant’, I was trapped! When have Australian blokes ever needed a excuse to go to the pub?

I needed to read on to find out what qualifies as a ‘GOOD’ excuse to  leave your waddling partner at home, tired and swollen, to go have a drink with the boys.

Then there was the word EDUCATIONAL… obviously this article was orchestrated by a group of men sitting around the poker table one night in a brainstorming session on how to get away from the hormonal wife…

What they were really talking about is a concept called Beers and Bubs – a 2.5 hour session aimed at men who are too busy to make ante-natal classes or find it hard to speak up in a clinical environment. The group discusses pain relief, birth etiquette and caesareans over a meal, beer or soft drink.

How do you feel about his concept?  Good idea or lame idea?  I asked some of the Springfree™ Trampoline mothers what they thought…

Trudie – Costumer Service & Mother of 4.

What a joke. If they have time to go to the pub why do they not have time to go to an Anti-Natal class?

Tanya – Assistant Marketing Manager & Mother of 2

I know my husband squirmed all the way through antenatal classes.  I found often the men wouldn’t join in the conversations as they didn’t appear to want to share their feelings and thoughts in front of the women or perhaps felt they weren’t entitled to contribute as they weren’t as impacted by the pregnancy as the women.  A male only group environment would enable them to share and discuss the experience from a man’s perspective, having the ability to be completely open and honest about their circumstances and learn the role a man can play in the pregnancy, birth, and then nurturing of the child – the men I know seem to feel lost and unable to contribute and they’re reluctant to discuss issues with their partner for fear of upsetting them or being misunderstood. They want to help, but have little idea how.  Learning these skills can not only help them become more included in the process, it would benefit their partner greatly and encourage a more harmonious environment for the child – and its cheap therapy!  Antenatal in the pub – what man wouldn’t go!

Leanne – Administration and HR Manager & 15 Weeks Pregnant

I do like the idea that they can feel comfortable in an environment and feel as though they can talk more freely.  We are yet to start ante-natal classes but other fathers have already got my husband dreading some of the things he will have to sit through.
